Development

The Netball Scotland Development Team combines our Regional Development Managers, with the Education team and the Club and Competitions Development Manager, all of whom are linked with our Head of Development, Geraldine McGuire.

Working alongside all netball clubs and Districts, coaches and officials, volunteers and partners to develop a proactive and robust netball athlete pathway, and improved netballing opportunities for all.

Whilst Geraldine, Rebecca (Education and Development Manager), Gillian (Education Administrator), and Katy (Club and Competitions Development Manager) are mostly office based, our team of Regional Development Managers are dotted out around the country, and currently cover 27 of the 32 Local Authorities in Scotland.

At Netball Scotland, our mission is to make netball the first choice sport for girls and women in the country. We understand that clubs are the hub of our sport, where our players, coaches, umpires and volunteers begin their journey.

I support players, volunteers, clubs and schools at all levels of the netball pathway in Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Scottish Borders, and as of April 2017 will also cover the Central region:  Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling. I am responsible for supporting clubs to increase their capacity to ensure as many girls and women have the opportunity to participate in netball. This includes working with local partners and volunteers to develop a robust workforce of coaches, umpires and club officials, to allow our clubs to continually evolve and grow.

I cover Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray which form the area of Grampian. We are focused on helping to develop the sport of netball at all levels, working with Active Schools in primaries and secondary schools, with ADNA and local authority partners for Junior Clubs, Bounce Back to Netball programs and all of our competitive clubs. We focus on the quality of education being provided to our coaches and officials and on developing our workforce in order to provide the highest level of participation and performance netball to all ages working alongside our sporting partners.

Netball Scotland’s mission is to have netball as the first choice sport for women and girls.  I work within Argyll & Bute, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Glasgow to support netball development in all areas such as clubs and schools, and work closely with Active School and sports development partners.

I support clubs to increase their capacity and grow membership which gives more girls and women the opportunities to take part in netball. I also support volunteers who are involved in netball to access coach and umpire courses which in turn increases our volunteer workforce.

With the creation of our recreational netball programme, Bounce Back to Netball, I have been very involved to ensure these clubs flourish and encourage women and girls (16+) to come back into our sport.

As the newest Regional Development Manager to join the team I will be focusing on building solid relationships with clubs, schools, players and volunteers in North and South Lanarkshire, North, South and East Ayrshire, Inverclyde and Dumfries and Galloway. This will allow development and sustainability at all levels. I will also seek opportunities to work in partnership with a wide range of agencies and organisations.
