Inter District 2016-17

5th May 2017

The Inter District always proves to be a fantastic end to our District season.  We hosted a newly expanded entry total of 25 teams – 14 Under 15 teams and 11 Under 17 teams – across two event days on Sunday 30th April and Saturday 22nd April respectively.

There was some excellent netball on display on both days, with a number of very close matches and draws.

The U15 Semi Finals saw 1st place in the group Glasgow face Borders in a very close match, but it was Glasgow who came out on top winning 10-7. The opposing final saw Argyll & Bute top the group stages to face South Lanarkshire, a great game where Argyll & Bute come out on top 14-6.

The U15 final saw the two teams who topped the groups battle it out, on this occasion Argyll & Bute dug deep to take this year’s U15 Inter District Champions title, with a win over the U15 District League Winners, Glasgow, 12 - 5.  Well done girls!

The Under 17 title was a little more open, with all 4 semi-final qualifying teams from the Under 17 Performance League who hadn’t met each other in a match since 2016.  First up South Lanarkshire met with Edinburgh, who had previously met in a very close match in the Performance league; with South Lanarkshire being victorious but on this occasion it ended with a strong result for Edinburgh winning 19 – 17.  In the opposing semi-final it was Glasgow who were also able to overcome their semi-final opponents Borders, wining in the last seconds 18 – 17.  It was a battle of East v West for the final; with each finishing 3rd and 2nd respectively in their Performance League campaigns we knew we were in for an exciting final.  Congratulations must go to Glasgow who kept their composure and consistency strong to take the U17 Inter District title 16 -14 over Edinburgh.

A really great end to the season, and for some players the end of their District netball as they move on to senior competitions.  We hope that everyone involved – players, coaches, umpires and volunteers, all had an enjoyable season, enjoy the off season, and are looking forward to returning the courts in 2016/17.
