In addition to this Glasgow University are entered into a second league, competing against other universities. The number in our club last year was 76 girls, which stayed fairly consistent throughout the season.

Qualifications;
We expect a coach to have a UKCC level 1 or equivalent. The position is paid and would preferably like to begin once term commences; 19th September for 2 weeks of trials. The teams are to be selected for the leagues beginning at the end of September.
We have a really enthusiastic club who are dedicated to improving as individuals and also developing as teams. Need an equally determined coach to match!
Quote from previous coach Leanne Hillan; "I have had the best three years at Glasgow University coaching. The standard of play, dedication and enthusiasm of the girls has been fantastic. As a coach all I was concerned with was coaching - the girls did everything else from organising umpires, fundraising, secretarial roles, registration of players and the list could go on. You are there merely there as a coach to make the girls better and provide a support network for the them."
We have a few girls within the club willing to coach the recreational girls to gain experience. If you can only devote time from 8pm onwards on a Monday we would love to hear from you. This is a great opportunity to coach a talented group of young netballers.

NETBALL FOR KENYA: VOLUNTEER UMPIRES REQUIRED FOR CHARITY TOURNAMENT
Netball for Kenya is a mixed netball tournament, run to raise money to support the people of Motobo, a slum district of Kericho in Kenya. Most recently, the funds raised have been used to help the many people who have been displaced by tribal violence. Netball for Kenya has helped street children into education, built houses for the displaced, and supported the many thousands of people in the area living with HIV in a range of ways.
With the support of Westwoods Sports Centre, Netball for Kenya has been held annually in Edinburgh for the past 3 years. Due to demand for team places, and a desire to offer a tournament pitched to a non-club standard of netball, an additional tournament is this year being held in East Kilbride, at the John Wright Sports Centre on Sat 4 Sept, 12-5.
Eight teams will take part in the tournament, which takes a format of group matches, semi finals stage, followed by the final and wooden spoon playoff. The tournament is played in a fun and friendly atmosphere, with many teams taking to the court in fancy dress. Emphasis is placed on the spirit of the tournament and teams have consistently responded well to this.
We are in need of qualified umpires prepared to volunteer their time to support the event. This is an opportunity for some feel good umpiring for a very good cause. Our umpires are key to the success of the event and anyone available to give up some time to umpire for all or part of the tournament would be very welcome, and much appreciated.
For more information and/or to volunteer your services as an umpire, please contact: netballforkenya@hotmail.co.uk
