Netball Scotland is established, maintained and managed for the purpose of promoting, organising and developing the game of netball and to act as the sole controlling and governing body of the game of netball in Scotland.
Q. How is Netball Scotland structured?

Netball Scotland has a Board which is appointed by the governing body’s membership to control the affairs and future direction of the organisation and the sport in Scotland. Staff are employed or contracted by the Board to deliver programmes and initiatives at an operational level. Sub-groups which are accountable to the Board are also in place to complement the work of staff in areas including Youth & Schools, Education & Training, Performance Planning and International Affairs.

Netball Scotland has 8 affiliated districts; Aberdeen, Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow, Renfrewshire, and South Lanarkshire. Each of these districts has a number of clubs operating in their area. Netball Scotland is also working on membership expansion into new areas such as the highlands, islands, Borders and Dumfries.
Q. How is Netball Scotland funded?

Netball Scotland receives the majority of its funding from sportscotland which distributes funds on behalf of the Scottish Executive. Other sources of funding include membership fees, course income and resource sales. This money is used to operate the organisation and deliver various programmes and services. Netball Scotland also receives ‘in-kind’ support from Gilbert International and is seeking further sponsorship.

Netball Scotland’s membership is made up of players at junior and senior clubs around Scotland, participants in the Thistle-Netball programme, individuals, coaches, and schools at primary and secondary level. At present we have more than 1,800 registered members.

The site provides details on how to set up and manage a club along with advice on issues such as fundraising and planning. Q. What insurance cover does Netball Scotland offer?
A. Netball Scotland’s members are covered by comprehensive personal accident insurance and have discounted access to our travel insurance scheme. Coaches are also able to take out insurance through Netball Scotland to protect them during their coaching activities and our insurance broker would be more than happy to assist our members with any further insurance needs.

Securing a job in sport is very competitive. There are various courses available in disciplines like sport management, sport coaching, exercise science and physical education which will assist you in furthering your expertise. Q. How can I become a volunteer in netball?

Netball clubs are continually seeking volunteers for various roles such as coaching, umpiring, event management and administration. Some opportunities will be advertised through the Notice Board on this website. Alternatively you may wish to contact a local club in your area directly.
Q. How do we get our coaches and umpires trained?
A. Netball Scotland conducts coaching and umpiring courses throughout Scotland at competitive rates for participants. Courses will be advertised through this website. Participants will acquire skills and knowledge they will be able to apply at their club. To continue raising the quality of netball coaching in Scotland we are also a partner with England Netball and Welsh Netball in the development of the UKCC for netball which will standardize coach education across the UK.
