Pathways to performance 2008 - 2014

EXCITING NEW INITIATIVE!

Netball Scotland is delighted to announce that as part of our new ‘Pathways to Performance’ model, we have introduced the north and south pathways squads for 13 – 15yr olds. Athletes will be nominated by district coaches and invited to trial for a place in the squad. The purpose of both squads is to provide a platform for development of technical, physical and mental skills for our potentially talented young athletes as well as educate them in the areas of nutrition, injury prevention and lifestyle management. Both squads will meet once per month from January to June for input from a team of nationally appointed coaches and sports science specialists. They will both follow the same nationally devised development programme covering all of the key areas previously mentioned. The north squad will be based In Perth and the south squad in Hamilton.  Plans are also in place to bring both squads together for a residential summer camp at the end of the six month programme. This is a very exciting initiative and one which we aim to develop further by increasing the amount of pathways squads throughout the country therefore providing our potentially talented young athletes with the necessary support. It is even more exciting to consider it possible that a few of these athletes may well compete for Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
