Netball Scotland’s Under 13 National Tournament event took place at Caledonian University Sports Centre in Glasgow Saturday on the 9th of February seeing ten teams compete from across Scotland, producing a good standard of competition and some exciting and tense games.
The initial stages of the event saw two groups of five teams, with the winners and runner ups from each section going through to the semi finals. The winners from each section going on to play the runner up from the opposite section.
In the semi finals Perth saw off Arbroath (B) and Peebles beat Hamilton, leading to a re-match between Perth and Peebles which had previously seen Peebles beat Perth 12- 6 in the section stage match.
In the final Perth, coached by Ali McCrae, were not only looking to gain revenge form the previous game but were also looking to retain the Trophy they had won in the past two years. Peebles, coached by Linda Nicholson, were looking to go through there first Under 13 Tournament with a 100% record by winning all there games. The game itself was a fantastic end to end game, Perth stormed into an early 8-2 lead, however Peebles kept there composure and drew the score level 10 – 10 at half time. In the second half Perth managed to edge in front and ran out winners 19 -15, to claim the Trophy for the 3rd time in succession.
The Under 13 National Tournament is a vital as it helps aid development and increase’s participants hunger to continue in the sport of Netball. The structure of this year’s event is below.
