International netball comes to Glasgow this November with the inaugural Celtic Cup being hosted at the Emirates Arena. Running from the 7th to 10th of November, teams from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and invitational team Zimbabwe Gems will compete for the new Celtic Cup in a showcase of elite-level, competitive netball.

The event is designed for both seasoned fans and novices, providing the opportunity to see international netball at its best. The tournament will follow a round-robin format from Thursday to Saturday, with the finals being held on Sunday, November 10.

Tickets go on sale at 12 noon on Friday, 13 September 2024 via Fanbase

The Celtic Cup

The Celtic Cup has been created by Netball Northern Ireland, Netball Scotland, and Wales Netball to provide the best competitive tournament for athletes and spectators alike outside of the World Cup and Commonwealth Games. It is intended that the competition will grow in the coming years to include more invitational teams.

Netball Scotland’s new Head Coach, Kath Tetley, will make her debut, steering the Scottish Thistles in this competitive setup.
Welsh Feathers will be led by Emily Handyside and will feature some new faces in the squad as they start the next 4-year cycle building towards the 2027 World Cup.

Sheonah Forbes will lead Northern Ireland Warriors in their third international competition of the year, following their participation in the Paradise Cup in Barbados this summer.

Karen Rollo, CEO of Northern Ireland Netball, expresses the significance of the event: “The Celtic Cup means a huge amount to Netball NI, not only will our Warriors get to compete against our nearest rivals on the court, but more importantly, we are working in complete collaboration with one another, striving to create a new brand of competition that meets the needs of our three nations. This is just the beginning of what we know will become an unmissable event in the world netball calendar.”

Vicki Sutton, CEO of Wales Netball adds: “The Celtic Cup presents a unique opportunity for our Welsh Feathers to compete against different styles of International Netball on UK soil. The tournament, which is the first of its kind, highlights a truly collaborative approach amongst the Celtic Nations, and we have enjoyed working with Netball Scotland and Netball Northern Ireland to bring the event to fruition.”

Ken Hay, CEO of Netball Scotland, emphasises the national pride: “Hosting the Celtic Cup in Glasgow is a proud moment for Scottish netball. This event underscores our commitment to promoting the sport and providing our athletes with high-level competitive opportunities, and fans with the best netball. We look forward to welcoming teams and fans to what promises to be a thrilling showcase of skill and fair play.”

Letitia Chipandu, Zimbabwe Netball President, explains the test series is a crucial opportunity to “merge experienced players with future talent, compete with the best and learn how to win.” Viewing the Celtic Cup as a significant learning experience, they are focused on honing their skills to win on an international stage.
