AIM

The Lead Coach Award is an important step on the coaching pathway for individuals who want to lead sessions within community or clubs /settings.
The purpose of this course is to allow learners to develop knowledge and skills they will use to independently plan, deliver, and review coaching sessions under *minimal supervision. Learners will develop an understanding of effective coaching practice in relation to knowing yourself, others and coaching.  Learners will build knowledge, confidence, and competence as a lead coach.
The unit is suitable for learners who have an active interest in netball and coaching.

CANDIDATE

Learners must be at least 16 years old on completion of this unit. Entry is at the discretion of Netball Scotland.  Learners should have an active interest in netball and some experience of assisting at coaching sessions. (University Students, Teachers, or Learners that hold a Level 1 coaching certificate or equivalent qualification can apply for this course). Recommended age is 18+.

Those with the following membership licenses qualify to apply and book on to the Lead Coach Award: Level 3 | Level 4

QUALIFICATION OUTCOMES

Successful candidates will be able to lead sessions within a community or club setting or similar.

COMPETENCIES

Coaches under 18 should be supervised by a responsible adult. The adult is considered to have duty of care and is responsible for all participants. It is advised that coaches 18+ have access to indirect supervision of a more qualified/experienced coach who does not require to be in attendance but can provide ongoing support with reviewing their coaching practice, planning etc.

The supervising coach must be over the age of 18 years and hold a lead coach qualification, Lead Coach Award (Community Coach Award), UKCC level 2 or above.

DURATION

Pre-Course modules via our Brightspace platform, 3 online workshops (7.5 hours) and 1 practical day (7 hours).

ASSESSMENT

Assessments are completed on an ongoing basis throughout the course.

PRE-REQUISITES

Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport: To complete the Lead Coach Award candidates must provide valid certificates for Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport. Course dates are available through our education calendar via the link below:

First Aid: To complete a minimum online First Aid Course.

Learners must be at least 16 years old on completion of this award.

REGISTRATION FEES

Course Cost: £310.00.

FUNDING

sportscotland funded cost: £210.00 – members only.  Subject to continued sportscotland funding.

Netball Scotland’s subsidy form is mandatory for members booking onto a course and must be completed at the time of booking.

Candidates must live in Scotland to apply for funding.

Please note if your subsidy is rejected, full course costs will apply.  The education department will contact candidates directly if you are unsuccessful in your subsidy application.

AIM

Netball Scotland has created the upgrade to Lead Coach Award course for current UKCC L1 coaches or coaches from other sports who wish to attain the new Lead Coach qualification. This is for candidates that are 18 who want to lead sessions with *minimal supervision within a community club setting or similar and have a UKCC L1 qualification.

The course is suitable for members that hold the UKCC level 1 qualification.  Recommended age is 18+

AIM

The Advanced Coach Award is designed for those who wish to develop their netball coaching skills further to become a head or lead coach with responsibility for the ongoing development of players over a competitive season. ​

This award is a PDA (Professional Development Award) in Sports Coaching Practitioner at SCQF level 7 which supports the development of sports coaches who are evolving their practice; it encourages curiosity and the idea that coaching effectiveness is not simply about developing coaching knowledge but also having a greater level of self-awareness while understanding the participant.​

Learners must be at least 18 years old on completion of this unit. Entry is at the discretion of Netball Scotland.  Learners should have at 2 years of experience of coaching in competition. (University Students, Teachers, or Learners that hold a Level 2 coaching certificate or equivalent qualification can apply for this course). Recommended age is 18+.

Those with the following membership licenses qualify to apply and book on to the Advanced Coach Award: Level 3 | Level 4

QUALIFICATION OUTCOMES

On successful completion of this course the learner will be able to:

• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the different roles a coach may need to fulfil and boundaries that they need to consider before, during and after a session as part of a wider programme.
• Apply a reflective thinking tool to evaluate and extend their coaching practice.
• Explain the influencing factors which underpin a coach’s philosophy of practice, and how they manifest in the coaching environment.
• Apply appropriate communication skills, techniques and practices to maintain effective working relationships with participants and support coaches (if applicable) before, during and after delivery.
• Establish and maintain an appropriate motivational environment for coaching programmes.
• Demonstrate applied knowledge of holistic athlete/participant development frameworks.
• Identify how participants’ needs and wants influence what and how you coach through planning, applying and evaluating this in the coaching environment.
• Demonstrate planning of coaching activities, and use of behavioural strategies to support participant/athlete engagement and learning.
• Demonstrate a coaching process in the delivery of a coaching programme.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of coaching practice.
• Research emerging trends in sport or coaching and reflect on how this would be applied in the coaching environment to meet the wants and needs of participants.

COMPETENCIES

This award entitles the successful coach to lead a coaching staff and a team (clubs or district) in official competitions.

DURATION

Pre-Course modules via our Brightspace platform, 1 x online Induction session (1 hour), 4 online workshops (8 hours) and 2 practical days (7 hours per day)
