The Introduction to Umpiring course is designed to give the Learner the essential Rules knowledge prior to attending the C Practical Umpire course. It is delivered as modules and you can enjoy learning from the comfort of your own home. This resource will start you on the umpire pathway; introducing you to the rules, techniques and skills required to be an effective umpire. Hopefully, you will enjoy the modules and you will be motivated and informed enough to take the next step to developing your umpire skills through the C Practical Umpire Course.

The On My Whistle course is designed to give the learner the essential rules of netball. This course is also available online.
This resource will start you on the umpire pathway; introducing you to the rules, techniques and skills required to be an effective umpire. This course is suitable for primary & secondary school teachers, volunteers, active school coordinators, junior clubs & district squads.
Perfect for those that want to get to know the basic rules of netball and to start their officiating journey.
This online course will introduce you to the rules, start you on the umpire pathway and cover the techniques and skills required to be an effective umpire.

Course Cost: £165.00 per group of 20 (£6.00 per extra candidate)

The C Umpire Course is perfect for those who wish to umpire at lower league divisions/junior level or school competitions.
Duration:
- Course duration: 5½ hours
- Pre course work: Introduction to umpiring course E learning modules
- Online/blended tutorials: 1½ hours course theory
- Online/blended tutorials: 2 x 2 hours practical course 0r blended 1 x 4 hours
After you attend the course you will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the rules
- Identify the requirements for Netball Europe C Award
- Demonstrate correct use of whistle, voice and terminology
- Begin to use recommended hand signals
- Apply basic umpiring skills to identify and penalise infringements
- Understand and demonstrate how correct positioning and appropriate movement skills will enhance vision and impact positively on decision making
- Demonstrate the ability to identify Contact that interferes with play
- Understand the importance of the Game Management process
- Understand the requirements for Assessment
- Understand the requirements for Assessment theory and practical.
Once you complete the initial course the next step is to complete C Theory Assessment (online) and then the C Practical Assessment.
Requirements of Entry:
- Affiliated Member Netball Scotland at the correct license.
- Minimum Age:13 to attend the Course, 14 for Assessment
- Online Introduction to umpiring
Theory and Practical assessment must be completed within 1 year of the course date.

Course and Events Cancellation Policy
Netball Europe’s C Award is entering a new phase in that the written element of the award is now online from 1st September 2019, which means that it can be taken at any time throughout the year and in the comfort of your own home.
Course candidates will be sent information on how to book this once they have attended the C Umpiring Course

Working closely with Local Association’s & Partners. The practical assessment dates will be organised by Netball Scotland throughout the calendar year.
C Course Assessments:
Duration – 30 minutes or 40 minutes maximum (2 x 15 or 3 /4 x 10 mins)
Criteria:
- Active Netball Scotland membership
- Completed Online Introduction to Umpiring
- Completed C Umpire Course
- Completed C Theory Examination
Practical Assessments must be concluded within 1 year of your course date unless an extension has been granted.
B Umpire Award
The B Umpire Award is perfect for those that have gained their C Umpire Award and are looking to Umpire in higher divisions in Local or Regional Leagues.
Duration
- Course duration: 5 1/2 hours
- Pre course work: Record of matches umpired/regular revision of the rules
- Online tutorials: 1 1/2 hours
- Face to face delivery: 4 hours
On completion of the course, individuals should be able to:
- Apply the different levels of knowledge and skills between a Netball Europe C and B Award umpire
- Know and apply the rules in more demanding contexts and increase confidence when umpiring in more challenging environments
- Use recommended hand signals to illustrate decisions made
- Apply Match Protocols/Match Guidelines
- Apply advantage appropriately
- Show an increased understanding and application of the umpiring techniques of Positioning, Vision and Timing and an ability to show good movement skills
- Recognise the difference between Contact that does or does not interfere with play
- Utilise effective Game Management techniques
- Understand the requirements to progress along the Umpiring pathway
Once you have completed the course the next step is completing your B Theory Assessment and then the B Practical Pre Assessment & B Assessment.
Requirements of Entry:
- Affiliated Netball Scotland Member at the correct license.
- C Umpiring Award. Minimum of 1 year’s experience or have been Talent Identified by Netball Scotland assessors.
Minimum age: Candidates must be age 16 or over to attend the B Umpire Course
Pre-requisite: C umpire Award
As part of your Umpiring Assessment you must submit your Fitness Bleep Test Result using this document: for the B Award, you are required to reach a minimum of 6.1.
Theory and Practical assessment must be completed within 1 year of the course date.

B Umpiring Course Outline
Netball Europe offer 3 exams throughout the course calendar to sit your B & A theory paper. These papers will be invigilated across 3 locations in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
B/A Theory Papers will last 2 hours.
Dates: February, June and October.

Please note all candidates need to appoint their own invigilator to supervise the exam. This can be this can be held in the candidates own home, office, sports venue or school. Further information will be sent on completion of you booking your exam.

The Netball Scotland Umpire Endorsement programme, which came into effect in September 2017, is in place to ensure the quality of umpiring across Scotland is at a suitable and standardised level. This helps create a positive environment for both players and future umpires to progress, as well as ensuring the standards within the leagues are met.

Endorsement costs are:
C Award- £35.00
B Award – £65.00
A Award – N/A
Endorsements are required every 4 years.
You should then email educationadmin@netballscotland.com with your up and coming match dates so we can arrange an assessor to attend locally.
