B UMPIRE AWARD
The B Umpire Award is perfect for those that have gained their C Umpire Award and are looking to Umpire in higher divisions in Local or Regional Leagues.
Duration
- Course duration: 5 1/2 hours
- Pre course work: Record of matches umpired/regular revision of the rules
- Online tutorials: 1 1/2 hours
- Face to face delivery: 4 hours
On completion of the course, individuals should be able to:
- Apply the different levels of knowledge and skills between a Netball Europe C and B Award umpire
- Know and apply the rules in more demanding contexts and increase confidence when umpiring in more challenging environments
- Use recommended hand signals to illustrate decisions made
- Apply Match Protocols/Match Guidelines
- Apply advantage appropriately
- Show an increased understanding and application of the umpiring techniques of Positioning, Vision and Timing and an ability to show good movement skills
- Recognise the difference between Contact that does or does not interfere with play
- Utilise effective Game Management techniques
- Understand the requirements to progress along the Umpiring pathway
Once you have completed the course the next step is completing your B Theory Assessment and then the B Practical Pre Assessment & B Assessment.
Requirements of Entry:
- Affiliated Netball Scotland Member at the correct license.
- C Umpiring Award. Minimum of 1 year’s experience or have been Talent Identified by Netball Scotland assessors.
Minimum age: Candidates must be age 16 or over to attend the B Umpire Course
Pre-requisite: C umpire Award
As part of your Umpiring Assessment you must submit your Fitness Bleep Test Result using this document: for the B Award, you are required to reach a minimum of 6.1.
Theory and Practical assessment must be completed within 1 year of the course date.
Membership Criteria: Those with the following membership licenses qualify to apply and book on to the C Umpiring Course:

B/A Theory Papers will last 2 hours.

Please note all candidates need to appoint their own invigilator to supervise the exam. This can be this can be held in the candidates own home, office, sports venue or school. Further information will be sent on completion of you booking your exam.
Working closely with Local Association’s & Partners. The practical assessment dates will be organised by Netball Scotland throughout the calendar year.
B Assessment – Duration 4 x 15 minutes or 4 x 12 minutes
Criteria:
- Active Netball Scotland membership
- Completed B Umpire Course
- Completed B Theory Examination
Practical Assessments must be concluded within 1 year of your course date unless an extension has been granted.
The A Umpire Award is perfect for those who are looking to progress their umpiring and look at performance and international matches.
Duration
- Course duration: 6 hours
- Online theory section – 2 hour session
- Practical application of Techniques and Applications – 2 hour session
- Practical umpiring – match play with feedback from Course Tutors – 2 hour session (ongoing feedback in matches throughout season arranged with Tutors/NS personnel).
On completion of the course, individuals should be able to:

- Umpires who are committed to improve their umpiring level
- Umpires who aspire to umpire at the High Performance Level
Candidates may be invited onto the course.

The Netball Scotland Umpire Endorsement programme, which came into effect in September 2017, is in place to ensure the quality of umpiring across Scotland is at a suitable and standardised level. This helps create a positive environment for both players and future umpires to progress, as well as ensuring the standards within the leagues are met.

C Award- £35.00
B Award – £70.00
A Award – N/A
Endorsements are required every 4 years.
You should then email educationadmin@netballscotland.com with your up and coming match dates so we can arrange an assessor to attend locally.
