Netball included in Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games Federation has confirmed that netball will be one of ten sports included in the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games line up.

Netball Scotland CEO Ken Hay said: “We’re utterly delighted with the news that netball will be included in the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

“I’ve spoken before about how impactful the 2014 Games were for our sport – and sport in Scotland – so we’re well aware of the opportunity that lies ahead.

“We will continue to work closely with all stakeholders, including Commonwealth Games Scotland and World Netball, to ensure the 2026 Games will be an incredible spectacle and a lightning rod to inspire more people to fall in love with and take part in our sport.

“We can’t wait to welcome the world to Glasgow.”

Scottish Thistles Head Coach, Kath Tetley, added: “The Commonwealth Games are one of the most important and high-profile tournaments for our sport so it’s incredible news that we will be able to compete in them, and on home soil.

“I had the pleasure of being able to tell the squad the news, and all of the Thistles were buzzing. It’s a great opportunity for us to showcase on the world stage the quality of players we have here in Scotland.

“We have already begun to build our road map to the Games and its starts with our Celtic Cup matches against Wales, Northern Ireland and Zimbabwe here in Glasgow next month.”

The Scottish Thistles’ journey to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games begins in just over three weeks’ time at the Celtic Cup in Glasgow between the 7th and 10th of November.
