Peterhead Netball Community Day a huge success!

What a fantastic day in Peterhead! Hosted by Peterhead Netball Club, this special community event brought together players, families, and supporters from across Aberdeenshire for a celebration of inclusion, teamwork, and fun through netball.
The day was a wonderful collaboration between Lorraine Reid, (Chair of Peterhead Netball Club), Audra Booth (Community Sports Hub Officer), Stuart Grant (Active Schools Manager), and Grace Carson and Coreen Davies from Netball Scotland— whose combined efforts made the event such a success.
With over 150 people in attendance (and possibly a couple more we missed!), plus our walking groups and volunteers, we reached an amazing total of 180+ participants. The atmosphere was electric — full of smiles, encouragement, and community spirit.
A highlight of the day was the Primary Schools Mini-World Cup, where local pupils represented different nations and brought plenty of colour, excitement, and energy to the court. The young players showed great teamwork and enthusiasm — and while they competed, they also cheered for one another in true netball spirit.
It was inspiring to see so many ages and abilities coming together: from school pupils and new players to seasoned Walking Netballers — including a fantastic group from Turriff Walking Netball Club — and first-time participants giving Wheelchair Netball a go. Our teenagers were also exceptional — helpful, organised, and sociable throughout the day.
Everyone paused to enjoy the parents’ game, which proved to be another highlight — full of laughter, competitive spirit, and some surprisingly impressive play!
The introduction of Walking Netball and Wheelchair Netball was a huge success. Wheelchair Netball, in particular, captured everyone’s imagination — there was so much enthusiasm that the organisers are now working on developing a full set of rules to build on the momentum and make it a regular feature of future events.
A huge thank you also goes to the community centre staff, who were so accommodating — allowing access on Friday evening for setup and ensuring everything ran smoothly on the day.

The event perfectly captured what community sport is all about — inclusivity, energy, and connection. A huge well done to everyone who helped, played, supported, or cheered. You made it a day to remember.
