The Scottish Thistles hosted their first international test match in over 2 years as they faced the Barbados Bajan Gems at the Emirates Arena.

A strong start from the Thistles saw Captain, Maxwell deflect the Gems first centre pass and the team got off to a flying start leading 4-0 in the opening minutes. A strong full team defensive effort asserted their dominance from the first whistle and the Thistles showed composure through their high conversion rates. The combination of Leighton and Christian provided excellent feeding into the circle which resulted in an 11-1 lead after 7 minutes. The Thistles continued to put pressure on the Gems and the first quarter finished 17-5 in favour of Scotland.

No changes for either side going into the second quarter with the Gems hitting out hard, determined to narrow the score gap. The Thistles however continued to push ahead as they were smooth in transition from defence with their attack working seamlessly to get the ball to circle edge. The shooting partnership of McCall and Barrie enabled the team to extend their lead 41-14 going into halftime.

The third quarter saw some changes from the Thistles with Christian moving into centre and the introduction of Goodwin at shooter, McCleery on at wing attack and the debut of Pringle at goalkeeper. The Gems showed tenacity in their fightback however the Scottish side showed no signs of slowing down as their defensive unit suffocated the Gems attack. The Thistles stormed ahead leading 60-22 going into the last quarter.

The Thistles remained in control with 15 minutes left to play. MacPhail entered the court at goal defence pairing with Pringle. The defensive duo was able to force turnovers from the Gems and the team worked relentlessly in bringing the ball down into the attacking third. The entrance of Stagg on at goal attack provided the Thistles with energy in the shooting circle. With what was an impressive full team performance, the Thistles took the win 74-32 with Iona Christian being awarded Player of the Match. A special mention must go to Caitlin Pringle and Kalea Stagg who made their international debut, earning their first cap for the Scottish Thistles. Congratulations to you both!
