Community Coach Award – Glasgow

The purpose of this course is to allow learners to develop knowledge and skills they will use to independently plan, deliver, and review coaching sessions. Learners will be able to describe their motivations and aspirations as a coach, develop their ability to identify the needs of all participants, and prepare safe coaching environments.

The course is suitable for learners who have an active interest in netball and coaching.

Learners must be at least 16 years old on completion of this course. Entry is at the discretion of Netball Scotland.  Learners should have an active interest in netball and some experience of assisting at coaching sessions. (University Students, Teachers, or Learners that hold a Level 1 coaching certificate or equivalent qualification can apply for this course).

Outcomes

On successful completion of this course the learner will be able to:

  • Introduce coaching skills in relation to knowing yourself, others and coaching.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness in the context of their own role and responsibilities as a coach.
  • Prepare the physical environment and equipment to meet the required safety standards.
  • Identify and respond to the needs and expectations of participants during a session.
  • Lead the planning, delivery, and review of coaching sessions.

All candidates must complete the following pre course modules: 

  • Safe Guarding & Wellbeing: Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport 
  • First Aid Course
  • Disability Inclusion – Step Model (Space, Task, equipment, people), Activity Inclusion Model  – Included in pre course modules.
  • Online Introduction to Umpiring- Included in pre course modules.
  • Introduce Plan-Do-Review – Included in pre course modules.
  • Legislation: Health & Safety. Example of Risk Assessment – Included in pre course modules.
  • Introduce Communication: demonstration model, questioning & feedback models – Included in pre course modules.

Session 1 – Tuesday 4th March 2025 – 7 – 9.30pm

Session 2 – Tuesday 11th March 2025 – 7 – 9.30pm

Session 3 – Thursday 20th March 2025 – 7 – 9.30pm

Session 4 – Tuesday 25th March 2025 – 7 – 9.30pm

Practical Session:

Sunday 27th April 2025  –  Strathclyde Sport, time 10am – 5pm

All sessions must be attended.
