Gillian Leslie Awarded International Umpire Status by World Netball

16th October 2026

Netball Scotland is delighted to congratulate Gillian Leslie on achieving International Umpire Awardee (IUA) status, a significant milestone in her officiating career and a proud moment for Scottish netball.

The award, officially announced by World Netball today, recognises Gillian’s years of dedication, hard work and commitment to developing as an umpire at the highest level of the sport.

Gillian’s journey has taken her from domestic competitions in Scotland to the international stage, where she has continued to challenge herself and build her experience through appointments across Europe Netball and World Netball competitions.

Her recent international appointments include the Africa Netball World Cup Qualifiers in September 2026, the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar, Commonwealth Games pre-competition matches involving Australia, Wales, Malawi and South Africa, and the 2025 Celtic Cup.

A Commitment to Scottish Netball

Alongside her international achievements, Gillian has remained firmly committed to supporting the development of umpiring in Scotland.

She continues to officiate domestically while sharing her knowledge and experience as a tutor and assessor, and through her involvement with Scotland’s performance programmes.

Her willingness to support others, combined with her own determination to improve, makes her an excellent role model for aspiring umpires and demonstrates the opportunities available through Scotland’s umpiring pathway.

Earlier this year, Gillian shared her experiences in our feature,

offering an insight into the preparation, resilience and commitment required to officiate at international level.

Recognising the Team Behind the Achievement

While this award recognises Gillian’s individual achievement, it also reflects the importance of the people who have supported her throughout her development.

Netball Scotland would like to acknowledge the Umpire Performance Pathway (UPP) group, assessors, mentors and colleagues who have supported, challenged and guided Gillian as she has progressed through the officiating pathway.

We also recognise the wider group of dedicated individuals who work throughout the year to develop, educate and support Scotland’s umpires at every level of the game.

Achieving IUA status is a considerable accomplishment and one that Gillian has worked tirelessly towards. Her success is an important moment for Scottish officiating and we hope it will encourage the next generation of umpires to pursue their own ambitions.

Congratulations, Gillian, on a thoroughly deserved achievement and a very proud moment for everyone involved in Scottish netball.
