Netball in Scotland continues to grow infrastructure
20th December 2022
Netball Scotland are delighted to formally welcome The Glasgow Academy into the Netball Family. This partnership will help to build on the infrastructure to support the recovery and growth of netball across schools and the wider community surrounding The Glasgow Academy.
Geraldine McGuire, Head of Development at Netball Scotland said,
“As we continue to recover from COVID-19 and with an ambitious growth strategy for our sport, it has never been more critical to work in partnership to create a world class system of people, places and programmes.
We are, therefore delighted to welcome The Glasgow Academy into the Netball Family as a key partner supporting both the growth of netball in the school estate and the wider community. Since launching netball, the school now has a thriving club participating and competing on a weekly basis as well as being home to Glasgow Netball Association league fixtures and regularly hosting teacher CPD sessions & netball camps.
We are also delighted to support the schools plans for Project 100 which will see a state of the art sport and wellness facility in the Kelvinbridge area of the City in due course. This facility will enhance the places infrastructure for our sport, providing priority access to the netball community.”
Matthew Pearce, Rector, The Glasgow Academy added,
“Here at The Glasgow Academy, we are absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Netball Scotland. By working together, we are offering great opportunities for the pupils in our school but also much more widely. Netball is such a rapidly growing sport, and it is easy to understand why: it is fun, can be really fast-moving and exciting and is really accessible for all young people.
The interest and participation levels in netball from its inception in the school less than two years ago has been remarkable. Netball Scotland have provided us with great support and in formalising our partnership I have no doubt that we will continue to grow the sport in the school and also in the wider community.”
