Fever vs Strathclyde University
The number 1 seeded University of Strathclyde were up against Fever Highland in the last round of National League. After a fierce contest from both teams, Fever came away with a convincing win over Strathclyde.
Q1
Both teams started strong, showing great athleticism from the first whistle. Cerys Cairns dominated the shooting circle for Strathclyde showing her exceptional range, sinking shots from all over the circle. Fever settled into the game which was reflected in the score as they pulled ahead but Strathclyde fought back after a solid defensive effort from Bolland, Hughes and Finn. A strong start from both sides as the game went goal for goal in the opening quarter and after a highly contested 15 minutes the scoreboard read 11-11.
Q2
Strathclyde came out of quarter time with a point to prove hoping to retain their undefeated run in the competition. The attacking combination of Thomson and Antoine was a real strength for this Strathclyde team, demonstrating their solid partnership throughout the midcourt. Fever showed great hustle in defence with their one-to-one style paying off as they came away with consecutive interceptions. Things were heating up with multiple warnings being given from the umpires, Fever knew they had to adjust to keep their composure. After 30 minutes, it was Fever in the lead against top of the table Strathclyde Uni, 24-21.
Q3
The second half was underway with all still to play for. Strathclyde brought Kelly Boyle in at centre who led by example which lifted the confidence levels across the team. McCartney-Oliphant in at goal attack for Fever took control of their attacking third and was impressive under the net. Neither side gave an inch with every pass being contested. Despite their best efforts, Strathclyde struggled to find their shooters in the circle. As the third quarter came to an end, Fever asserted their dominance taking the lead, 42-28 against Strathclyde Uni.
Q4
Both teams made some changes across the court for the last quarter with Strathclyde hoping to chip away and narrow the gap, but Fever showed no signs of slowing down. Strathclyde showed good composure against a ruthless Fever side as they continued to turn over ball to provide their shooters with opportunities to convert. After 60 minutes, it was Fever Highland who came out on top, defeating Strathclyde Uni 55-39.
