Edinburgh’s Lexy Gillies, just 17, is making waves in the world of netball. Selected for the U17 Europe Netball squad, she helped lead her team to a silver medal earlier this year. But that’s not where her journey began or where it ends…
From Club Captain to Team Scotland: Lexy’s Journey
At the heart of the capital, playing for the Accies Netball Club, Lexy’s leadership was evident. She captained her club team to a triumphant victory at the U17 Youth Cup, making a significant mark at the Emirates Arena.

Following the U17 Youth Cup, Lexy shared, “It was great to be part of the first development Super Cup. It was exciting to see talent come together for friendly competition at a high level after the season ended.”
Stepping Up: The Call for Senior Super Cup
With a proven track record, it was inevitable for Lexy to catch the eyes of coaches and selectors. And it wasn’t long before she received a thrilling opportunity. “After the development Super Cup, my coach invited me to trial for the senior one. I was excited just to have the chance to train with these amazing girls,” Lexy expressed, reflecting on her advancement in the sport.
This season is a pivotal one for Lexy, as she moves from the Development Super Cup to the challenging terrain of the Senior Super Cup. Her excitement is palpable when she shares, “It’s an opportunity to play with some of the Thistles and the Sirens players. I’ve admired them for so long, and I’m grateful to learn from their experience on court.”
Fast5, Commonwealth, and the Road Ahead
Lexy’s growth trajectory didn’t stop at national circuits. Her skills earned her a spot to represent Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago, where Fast5 Netball made its debut.

With new experiences on the horizon, she’s eager to soak it all in, stating, “I’m keen to gain experience from senior players in my team and challenge myself against top athletes in our country.” And nothing compares to the thrill of playing at home. As Lexy puts it, “Playing in front of the home crowd will be an amazing experience, especially in front of family and friends.”
