Overview
After finishing seventh in last season’s tournament, Glasgow Saltires are bringing an updated squad with a focus on adaptability, teamwork, and development for the 2024/25 season. Led by head coach Sharyn Lyon and co-captains Beth Brownlie and Lucy Gaw, the squad blends youthful talent with experienced players. With a commitment to high standards, and after a rigorous pre-season training – which included an eight-week block of strength and conditioning- and a flexible playing style, the Saltires are aiming to challenge themselves and their opponents this season.

Ins and outs
Ahead of the new season Saltires have announced a number of changes to their squad. Last season’s captain Shona Gilchrist is taking time away from the court to have a child and is replaced Kate Seenan who is promoted from the second team. Also moving up from the second team are Maia Trees and Lorna Farrell in mid-court. Finally, Imogen Teale and Jenni Scott join the team’s shooting department alongside Scottish Thistle Zara Flett.

Head Coach Overview:
Sharyn Lyon: “This season is all about maintaining high standards, building team cohesion, and embracing versatility on the court. We’re placing a focus on adapting our strategies to each opponent, focusing on our strengths and opportunities to grow. I see coaching as a two-way street, fostering openness and collaboration to help our players develop not just their skills but their confidence as a team.”
Captain overview:
Beth Brownlie: “Our focus this season is on challenging ourselves as a team, growing together, and improving with every game. I’m aiming to be a loud and supportive captain, uplifting my teammates and helping us bring our best against strong opposition. It’s all about development, teamwork, and enjoying the journey on and off the court.”
First Match:
Saltires opening their season taking on Glasgow University at 1435 on Sunday 8 December at Pleasance in Edinburgh. Last season’s match-up was a fast and hard-fought encounter with Uni edging out the Saltires 52-49.
