Netball Scotland joins national call for Scottish Government to deliver £100m investment in sport

29th March 2026

Netball Scotland is proud to join Sports Governing Bodies and call on the next Scottish Government to fulfil £100m commitment to sports funding.

Netball Scotland is joining over thirty Sports Governing Bodies (SGBs) in Scotland to engage all parties contesting the Holyrood election to fulfil the current Government’s commitment to increase spending on sport in Scotland from £50m to £100m a year.

Following on from the recent Running on Empty campaign and the welcome announcement of a £20m uplift in the coming year, Netball Scotland believes that sports organisations need greater confidence about timing and delivery of the rest of the increase to enable clubs, community sport and performance programmes to grow and thrive.

Given sport’s increasing importance to health outcomes, community cohesion and showcasing Scotland, it is time to give sport a full-time, dedicated, clear and visible Minister for Sport and Active Life, rather than responsibility for sport being buried within an existing and complex portfolio.

The SGBs manifesto is being sent to all party leaders ahead of May’s elections. Netball Scotland and the group of SGBs will continue to show that sport is a national asset for Scotland, and governing bodies are key partners in an increasing contribution to health and wellbeing, strong communities, economic growth, education and Scotland’s international reputation.
