Safety Net Roadmap for Netball
16th March 2021
In our last update we said brighter times were coming, and it certainly feels like it now. We are heading ever closer to our long-awaited return to court, and we hope you are all as excited as we are!
However, we must still take a cautious approach to the return of netball. The wellbeing and safety of the Netball Family is paramount, we’ve been off court for a wee while now and #TeamNS want to ensure you can all return as safely as possible in line with the Scottish Government’s Guidelines.
That’s why we’re deploying our Safety Net.
The Netball Scotland Safety Net Roadmap will be a phased return to court, taking into account current permitted activity and member wellbeing. Our guidance is informed from the Scottish Government and Education Scotland’s PE Guidance to ensure we move forward in the best interests of our members and the wider community.
As we all look ahead to a gradual easing of restrictions, we want to share what we know to date about the anticipated Government roadmap for netball to help support planning. This guidance will be expanded as soon as we have more details. Here is the latest roadmap for netball as we understand it.
Return to Non-Contact Training and Netball Fitness Activity
The first step in our recovery is now. We are pleased to say that all members can from today 16/03/2021 return to outdoor non-contact training and netball fitness activity.
- A maximum of 15 people can meet outdoors (this number is inclusive of coaches)
- Coaches can hold multiple sessions per day ensuring hygiene and 2 metre distance measures remain in place.
- Non-contact netball training and fitness activity is permitted ensuing a 2-metre distance and minimal equipment sharing guidance is maintained.
- This guidance phase will be in place for all age groups U11, 12-17 and 18+ until at least Easter and is in line with Education Scotland’s PE Guidelines and Scottish Government Guidance

Like other sports we are taking a cautious approach to our Return. In line with our Safety Net phased approach, we expect to further lessen restrictions and increase participation numbers in line with the Scottish Government’s route map out of lockdown.
We are due to receive further detail and clarification from the Government concerning this route map in the coming weeks, so we don’t have all the details yet for each of these next steps and they may still be subject to change.
We will continue, as we have done throughout the pandemic, to provide you with regular updates via email, our social channels and the NS website with all the latest information you need to help support a return to netball so that as a Netball Family we can all safely return to play. We will continue to be with you every step of the way.
