Scottish Thistles INF World Rankings Update

14th June 2019

On June 14th it was announced that Scotland had achieved an 8th place in the International Netball Federation World Rankings, Scotland’s highest ever ranking to date.

This new ranking followed the recent test match against Gilbraltar, on the 23rd March, which saw the national side, the Scottish Thistles, secure a 62-33 win as well as a boost in their rankings points.

The Scottish Thistles are currently preparing for their upcoming Netball World Cup campaign in July, and this hard fought for achievement is set to bolster the team’s preparations as they head into 10 days of fierce competition in the sport’s pinnacle performance competition.

Gail Parata, Scottish Thistles Head Coach, said:

“I’m absolutely delighted that the Scottish Thistles have moved into 8th position. This is the highest ranking we have achieved since the world ranking system started in 2008 and is due to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved in the programme – athletes, management, support staff, and the team behind the team – NS Board & Staff, Sponsors and Partners, and of course the Thistles Army”

Claire Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of Netball Scotland, said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have achieved our highest ever position of 8th in the INF official world rankings.

We set ourselves the ambitious target of reaching 8th in the world by 2019 at the start of our last strategic plan back in 2015, and it is testament to the hard work, dedication and expertise of the entire Netball Scotland performance team, programme and players that we have realised this goal.

With world netball now more competitive than ever it is imperative that we continue to build on our recent successes as we strive to become one of our sport’s top netballing nations.

This was an incredible surprise for the Athletes, Management and Team NS who are all thrilled with the announcement. This ranking is a testament to the hard work and dedication from everyone involved with Scottish Netball throughout the years.
