SCOTTISH THISTLES TO TAKE ON SOUTH AFRICA THIS OCTOBER

11th October 2021

Netball Scotland is delighted to announce that the Scottish Thistles, led by returning Captain Claire Maxwell, will take on South Africa in Lisburn on Friday 22nd October 2021.

Due to the recent cancellation of the SPAR Proteas’ plans to compete against Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago as part of the Margaret Beckford Sunshine Series, the South African national side have instead rearranged their trip to now head to Ireland and then Northern Ireland.

The Scottish Thistles will travel to Northern Ireland to take on South Africa in what will be a crucial match play opportunity as they continue with their preparations for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

South Africa are 5th place behind Jamaica, England, New Zealand, and Australia in the World Netball rankings, and Scottish Head Coach Tamsin Greenway is looking forward to the challenge ahead for the Thistles, currently 8th ranked.

“We are really excited about the opportunity to play South Africa. It’s great for us to test ourselves against one of the top nations as we continue to grow and develop as a squad. A lot of effort has gone on behind the scenes to make this match happen and as a group we can’t wait to get out on court and build again.”

Head Coach Tamsin Greenway and Assistant Coach Sara Francis-Bayman will both be courtside in Lisburn supported by;

Karen McElveen – Team Manager

Sarah Chambers – Physiotherapist

Simon Lovelock – Performance Analyst
